The Savage and the Lighthouse
John the Savage stayed here for quite some time. Its strange architecture is what brought him to this deserted building. The lighthouse doesn't fit in with it's society, just like how John didn't fit in the World State. The significance of the light house was to show John the way. In the Bible, lighthouses are specifically known to show the way and warn people away from danger.
After John took soma, he commited suicide. He became perfidious and hung himself by a rafter in the lighthouse.. The people who found him said he was rotating back and forth in his dead state. The symbolism of John's death is that he was spinning with no direction. The lighthouse (John) was giving no direction, which symbolizes the loss of hope as well.
